Bungalows and three-storey townhouses, Mid Wales / Shropshire border
Welshpool-based KW Brickwork Contractors Ltd built the facing brick and blockwork on this new-build development of bungalows and three-storey townhouses. The photos follow the cavity walling off scaffold, from the first lift around fitted windows to townhouses with dormers topped out and roof trusses going on.
What the photos show
This set of photos follows cavity walling on a new-build housing development with single-storey homes and three-storey townhouses. It starts at the first scaffold lift and ends with the brickwork finished up to the eaves and dormers.
First lift around fitted windows
The early photos are taken from the scaffold. On these plots the window frames were already in place and wrapped in breather membrane, with red cavity closers around the openings. The facing brick outer leaf is being built up to and around them. Bricks are loaded out on the scaffold boards within reach of the working face, and corners are racked back neatly ready for the next lift. Building to fitted frames means holding the brickwork tight and even to the frame all the way up, with reveals kept square and the coursing working to the sill and head positions.
Scaffold lifts and topping out
Later photos show the scaffold rising with the building: a two-storey plot wrapped in scaffold with a ladder and loading gate, and a wider view of the row of homes with roof trusses going on while timber and materials are stacked on the site road.
Three-storey townhouses
The last photos show the three-storey townhouses with the brickwork finished. They have tall gables, two dormers each and roof windows, with scaffold still up at ground-floor level. On a building this tall, the gable has to stay plumb and the coursing true over three storeys, and the dormer cheeks have to line up.
