What the qualification is

The NOCN Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations (Construction) is a work-based qualification for bricklayers. It is awarded by NOCN and regulated by Ofqual. Candidates have to be employed in the trade and are assessed on real work in the workplace, so each unit is evidence of work actually carried out on site.

The certificate lists the units Kris achieved, and the "range" within some units: the types of work he was assessed on, such as curves on plan, arches or matching existing materials. What it means for your job

The units line up closely with the work we do. Setting out and erecting brick and block structures is the core of every housing plot. Masonry cladding covers brick and block cladding, including to pre-erected timber frame. The repair unit covers matching existing materials and continuing existing bonding, which is what makes an extension or repair blend in. The architectural and decorative unit covers arches (rough-ringed, axed and gauged), walls with flush, projecting or decorative features, curved walls on plan and in elevation, and splayed walls.
