Facing brick built off scaffold as a cladding skin against wall panels on public-sector buildings
New-build housing
Multi-plot housing phase: blockwork and scaffold lifts, Mid Wales / Shropshire border
Welshpool-based KW Brickwork Contractors Ltd built the brick and block on several plots at once on this new-build housing phase. The photos show beam-and-block floors loaded out with blocks, blockwork inner leaves rising, facing brick with stone banding going up off scaffold, and roof trusses going on across the row.
What the photos show
This set shows a phase of housing with several plots on the go at once, which is how most housing sites run. The photos cover the stages between the ground floor and the roof.
Floors loaded out
The early photos show beam-and-block floors across several plots, with grey blocks stacked ready for the inner leaf and the facing brick outer leaf started round the edge. Higher up, an upper floor deck is loaded out in the same way, seen from the scaffold with fields and hills beyond. Loading out ahead of the gang keeps the work moving from plot to plot.
Lifts off scaffold
Next come the lifts. The blockwork inner leaf rises on the floor deck, with a mortar tub and timber on the floor. On the outside, the facing brick goes up behind scaffold, with steel props holding the ground-floor openings while lintels bed in. One photo along a scaffold walkway shows the facing brick racked back cleanly at the end of a lift. A pair of houses shows buff stone heads and a band course built into the facing brick at first floor.
Up to the roof
The last photos show plots under full scaffold with a loading bay on top, a row of plots scaffolded together along the site road, and roof trusses going on the first house.
