Facing brick and stone band detail work, Mid Wales / Shropshire border
Welshpool-based KW Brickwork Contractors Ltd took these close-up photos on new-build housing to show the details that decide how a finished house looks: buff stone bands and sills in facing brick, corners built plumb and to gauge, meter boxes, wall ties across the cavity and the blockwork inner leaf.
What the photos show
Wide shots show the houses, but close-ups show the workmanship. These photos were taken during the brickwork on new-build housing and focus on the details.
Ties, cavity and openings
The first photo looks along a new facing brick wall at a door opening, with red plastic wall ties set in the bed joint ready for the next course and insulation visible in the cavity. Another shows the grey blockwork inner leaf with wall ties crossing the cavity to the facing brick piers, seen along a scaffold walkway.
Corners and meter boxes
Two photos show crisp external corners in multi red facing brick, one with a meter box and its cloaked head built into the wall, a spirit level and tools left on top. Another shows a return of facing brick with the blockwork inner leaf behind and a door frame propped in place. A tall corner photographed from the scaffold shows brickwork built plumb, with gauge held from bottom to top.
Stone band and sills
Two photos show the buff stone band course and sills set into facing brick at first floor, with blockwork above and window frames propped. The band runs level along the elevation, and the brick coursing works to it cleanly above and below.
